WELCOME ENGLISH TEACHERS FROM WASHINGTON HIGH SCHOOL!!!!!!!

This year we have read plays with many characters in them. My favorite character out of all of them was probably Tillie from "The Effect of Gamma Rays On Man-In-The-Moon Marigolds". Tillie was an awesome character because she had her own personality. She didn't let anyone else influence her and her decisions. I would say she was a very strong individual. Also I just felt really sorry for her as I was reading the play. She was the outsider in her household. Tillie inspired me to be my own person.

So far this year in Dramatic Literature we have read a total of three plays. The plays are "A Raisin in The Sun", "The Effect of Gamma Rays on Man-In-The-Moon Marigolds", and "The Importance of Being Earnest". My favorite play was probably the play "The Importance of Being Earnest". It was my favorite because when we read the play in class I got to read the part of Gwendolen. Also the play just grabbed my attention and held onto it. It was by far the best play I have read in awhile.

My Dramatic Literature class just got done reading the book called "The Importance of Being Earnest". It was a really good book. Most of the students in my class thought it was rather boring but I really enjoyed it. Also as we read plays and such we act them out sometimes. I read the part of Gwendolen. Gwendolen is the lady on the left in the picture.

The Inability to Make Meaningful Human Connections

This theme basically means that characters in the play are fearful of facing the world. Beatrice is scared to face everyone because of the way she got made fun of in school. She put paper and stuff up on her windows.

Life Versus Death

This theme is kind of sad in a way. This theme is about the differences between the living and the dead parts of the play. In the play Beatrice basically kills everything around her. Beatrice ended up killing the rabbit. Also Nanny is almost dead herself. She walks around like a corpse. Tillie is the one who brings life to the play. She has so much potential to do great things. She plants the marigolds. She manages to keep them alive. I think science keeps Tillie alive as well. Science gives Tillie a chance to dream. I chose this picture because it reminds me of Heaven and Hell. Heaven is worth living for. Hell is just an excuse to be dead.

Dreams

This theme represents dreams that the characters have. To dream means to have mental images and emotions while sleeping. This kind of dream is different. This dream means that someone has imagining thoughts while being awake. Dreams can very in this sense. In the play Tillie has dreams for herself. She wants to become more than just a regular girl. She also wants to feel important. Tillie also dreams about how important the atom was. Beatrice has dreams as well. She dreams of having a tea shop. Ruth dreams about being with Chris. I chose this picture because it was cute and it represents dreams.

Self-Image

This theme is about self-image. I believe self-image means something or someone looks at them self and judges their self image. Ruth in the play is always judging herself. She wants to make sure that she looks good for this boy named Chris. She wears her red lipstick and smokes. Also in the the play Ruth makes fun of her mom kind of because she is wearing all of those feathers. Beatrice wears all of the feathers because she wants people to think she is well off. My picture shows a cat looking in a mirror. The cat is very confident about itself. The cat sees itself as a strong lion.

Triumph in the Face of Adversity

This theme is an awesome theme I think. I believe "Triumph in the Face of Adversity" means that someone or something has struggles in their lives that they have to fight for. The adversity part means that they struggled but have maybe overcome it. Beatrice had to overcome the fact that she was not popular in school and was always picked on. Also Tillie overcomes her being important. My picture shows a woman laughing and enjoying herself after overcoming obstacles in her life. I think it is a great example of this theme.
